A German student visa requires a degree programme that has to be studied in Germany, and programmes that can be completed online generally do not qualify (Administrative Court Berlin, 28 November 2025, 11 K 175/25). If you do come to Germany on a student visa, you need proof of funds of 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.

DHGS publishes one set of dates for all applicants and states that a later start is possible in principle. Foreign school-leaving certificates must be recognised in Germany; DHGS checks whether it can assess them itself or whether ZAB or uni-assist must. Applicants apply through the DHGS portal and present certified copies at enrolment.
How many programmes are taught in English?
None. DHGS offers 13 Bachelor's and 7 Master's programmes in health, therapy, psychology, social work and sport, all in German; the English titles on its site belong to certificate courses, not degrees. Applicants with a school-leaving qualification from a non-German-speaking country must pass a recognised German test.
