How much does Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg cost for international students?
EH Freiburg is a state-recognised university run by the Protestant Church in Baden and sets its own fees, independent of the state rules. The Baden-Württemberg 1,500 EUR fee for international students does not apply, and there is no second-degree fee. All students pay the same study fees.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's programmes | 280 EUR per semester |
| Consecutive Master's programmes | 500 EUR per semester |
| Administration fee at first enrolment | 160 EUR (one-off) + 10 EUR student card |
| Administration fee at re-registration | 80 EUR per semester |
| Studierendenwerk Freiburg fee | 87.50 EUR per semester (as of June 2024; confirm with EH Freiburg) |
Practical and study-abroad semesters are exempt from the study fee (a supervision fee of 100 EUR or 50 EUR applies instead). Study fees must be paid before each semester starts; hardship exemptions are possible on application.
Tuition fees come on top of the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
You apply directly to EH Freiburg through its PRIMUSS online portal. Bachelor's applications open in mid-March, and all Bachelor's programmes start in the winter semester only.
| Programme | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Social Work (B.A.) | Winter | Usually 15 July |
| Childhood Education (B.A.) | Winter | Usually 15 July |
| Religion and Social Work (B.A.) | Winter | Usually 15 August |
| Social Work (M.A.) | Summer / winter | 28 January / 15 July |
| Early Childhood Education (M.A.) | Summer / winter | 28 January / 15 July |
| Religious Education (M.A.) | Summer | 15 January |
| Peace Education (M.A.) | Summer, every two years (2028, 2030...) | 28 January |
EH Freiburg gives these dates as the usual deadlines, so confirm the current year's date on the programme page before applying, and leave enough time for your visa.
How many programmes are taught in English?
No degree programme at EH Freiburg is taught in English. All programmes are taught in German, and international applicants need advanced German: EH Freiburg requires at least C1, for example for the Peace Education Master's, which also requires good English. Ask the EH Freiburg study advisory service which German certificates are accepted for your programme.
