How much does Protestant University of Applied Sciences Dresden cost for international students?
The ehs is a state-recognised university run by a church foundation. Its full-time programmes charge no tuition fees. Every student pays a semester contribution.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Full-time Bachelor's and Master's programmes | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (from winter 2026/27) | 354.93 EUR per semester (Studentenwerk fee + Deutschlandsemesterticket + student body fee) |
Part-time programmes for working professionals charge tuition (e.g. 330 EUR per semester for the part-time Social Work B.A.) and are not suitable for a student visa.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
You apply directly to the ehs with its online application form and then email your documents as one PDF. The deadlines are the same for international applicants.
| Programme | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Social Work (B.A.) | Winter | 1 April |
| Childhood Education (B.A.) | Winter | 1 June |
| Nursing (B.Sc., dual) | Winter / summer | 1 June (winter) / 1 December (summer) |
| Religious and Community Education (B.A.), music profile | Winter | 1 May |
| Religious and Community Education (B.A.), education and support profile | Winter | 1 June |
| Social Work (M.A.) | Winter | 15 June |
Master's students are enrolled from 1 September, so your Bachelor's must be completed by 31 August. The ehs usually replies 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline. Some deadlines are occasionally extended, so check the ehs application page for the current year.
How many programmes are taught in English?
No degree programme at the ehs is taught in English. All programmes are taught in German, and international applicants must prove German at C1 level, for example with telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, TestDaF (at least 16 points and at least 3 points in each section) or the Goethe-Zertifikat C1. When you apply, a registration confirmation for one of these exams is enough. With 15 TestDaF points you must take an extra German course by the end of the first semester.
About Protestant University of Applied Sciences Dresden
The Evangelische Hochschule Dresden (ehs) is a state-recognised foundation university of applied sciences, founded in 1991 and run on a Protestant Christian basis. Around 900 students study at its campuses in Dresden and Moritzburg, where the Religious and Community Education programme is taught.
The ehs specialises in applied social and human sciences, with Bachelor's and Master's programmes in social work, childhood education, nursing, religious and community education, social management and counselling. The full-time Nursing (B.Sc.) is a dual programme: students need a contract with a hospital, nursing home or home-care service, which pays a monthly allowance; ehs helps applicants find one. Part-time programmes for working professionals and the distance-learning MBA in Social Management charge fees and are not suitable for a student visa.
