Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe for International Students

BEFORE YOU APPLY

The Evangelische Hochschule Rheinland-Westfalen-Lippe (EvH Bochum) is a state-recognised, church-run university of applied sciences and charges no tuition fees, for EU and non-EU students alike. Every student pays a semester contribution of 373 EUR (winter 2026/27), which includes the Deutschlandsemesterticket. All programmes are taught in German, so you need German at C1 level. Applicants with foreign certificates apply only through uni-assist, with earlier deadlines than German applicants: 15 June for the winter semester and 15 December for the summer semester. Note that the winter semester officially starts on 1 September.

How much does Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe cost for international students?

EvH Bochum charges no tuition fees, for EU and non-EU students alike. Every student pays a semester contribution twice a year, and the amount changes slightly each semester.

Bachelor's and Master's programmesNo tuition fees
Semester contribution (winter 2026/27)373 EUR per semester (130 EUR social contribution to Studierendenwerk AKAFÖ + 14 EUR student body + 226.80 EUR Deutschlandsemesterticket + 2.20 EUR hardship contribution)

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

Applicants with school or university certificates from abroad apply only through uni-assist; a direct application to EvH Bochum is not possible. Their deadlines fall one month earlier than the general deadlines (15 July / 15 January), and all documents must be uploaded by the deadline.

Not every programme admits students in the summer semester; Social Work, Special and Inclusive Education and the Master's in Social Inclusion do. If you submit a B2 or C1 certificate and a test registration with your application, the final German certificate can follow until 31 August (winter) or 28 February (summer).

How many programmes are taught in English?

No degree programme at EvH Bochum is taught in English; all programmes are taught in German, with only individual seminars in English. Applicants with foreign certificates must prove German at C1 level, for example with DSH-2, TestDaF with 4 in all parts, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule or Goethe-Zertifikat C2.

Several Bachelor's programmes also require a pre-study internship, and the nursing programmes require completed vocational training in health care. Applicants who would otherwise need a Studienkolleg can qualify for the Bachelor's programmes through the TestAS instead.
