FHM is a private, state-recognized University of Applied Sciences, so unlike the public universities in this guide it charges tuition for both Bachelor's and Master's programmes. Fees depend on the study format rather than the degree level:

A one-time examination fee of €500 per programme is added on top, and the exact figure varies by specific programme and campus — check the fee page for your chosen programme.

Even where tuition is charged, the German student visa still requires proof of funds separate from any fee paid to the university. For the student visa you need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, on top of whatever tuition is due.

FHM isn't part of uni-assist and doesn't use restricted admission (NC) — all of its programmes are NC-free. Applications go directly to FHM and are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, though FHM recommends submitting your documents by 31 August for the main October intake (some programmes also start in February and June). Since there's no fixed uni-assist-style deadline, check with your chosen campus for programme-specific dates.

FHM doesn't publish a single university-wide list of accepted certificates — English-language requirements are set per programme, and the exact score depends on which programme you apply to. As one example, the M.Sc. International Technology Transfer Management (Berlin) accepts IELTS Academic from 5.0 or TOEFL iBT from 87, or a Bachelor's degree already taught in English as an alternative. Check your specific programme page for its own requirement before booking a test.

FHM runs on a trimester system rather than the standard two-semester German academic year, with three terms per year. Work backwards from the lecture start rather than the semester start, so there's time for city registration, a bank account and a room before classes begin.

The main intake is October, with some programmes also starting in February and June.
