How much does Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) cost for international students?
From summer semester 2027, FAU charges tuition fees each semester to students from non-EU countries in Bachelor's and Master's programmes. The amount depends on the programme. Part-time study costs half, and in a two-subject Bachelor's you pay for one subject only. Fees do not apply to state-examination and teaching degrees, to doctoral students, to exchange students, or to a consecutive Master's after a completed Bachelor's at FAU or another German university. Students enrolled before winter 2026/27 and people with established ties to Germany are also exempt. FAU says information on scholarships and fee waivers will follow.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's, non-EU (from summer 2027) | 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000 EUR per semester, by programme |
| Master's, non-EU (from summer 2027) | 2,000, 4,000 or 6,000 EUR per semester, by programme |
| Examples | International Business Studies (B.Sc.) 1,000 EUR; Information Systems 2,000 EUR; Medical Process Management (M.Sc.) 2,000 EUR; Molecular Medicine (M.Sc.) 6,000 EUR |
| State examination and teaching degrees | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | 82 EUR per semester |
The semester contribution includes no transport ticket; students in Bavaria can buy a discounted Deutschlandticket for 43 EUR per month. Check the fee level for your programme in FAU's fee finder before you apply.
Tuition fees come on top of the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
