How much does Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
Hesse abolished tuition fees at its public universities in 2008, and Frankfurt UAS charges none for Bachelor's or consecutive Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike. The one exception is its continuing-education Master's programmes, offered through the WAkE further-education unit (including the MBA and Sustainable Business Development), which set and charge their own fees separately from the semester contribution.
What every enrolled student pays instead is the semester contribution, and it is not a fee for teaching. For winter 2026/27 it is 406.78 EUR, of which 226.80 EUR is the Deutschlandticket, the nationwide public transport pass. The remainder funds the Studierendenwerk, the student body, legal expenses insurance, a bike-rental scheme and university administration. The amount is recalculated each semester.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master (consecutive) | No tuition fees |
| Master (continuing education, e.g. MBA, Sustainable Business Development) | Fees apply, set per programme |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | 406.78 EUR per semester |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
Frankfurt UAS does not publish a separate set of deadlines for non-EU applicants: both EU and non-EU applicants with a foreign qualification apply through uni-assist and appear to face the same dates, so the table below states the one set of deadlines the university publishes rather than implying a non-EU-only date exists. Deadlines vary sharply by degree level, language of instruction and individual programme, and English-taught Master's programmes close far earlier than the German-taught catalogue.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Master, English-taught (except Global Logistics, Leadership & Psychology) | Winter (October) | 15 April |
| Master, English-taught (except Global Logistics, Leadership & Psychology) | Summer (April) | 15 October |
| Master, German-taught, and Leadership & Psychology | Winter (October) | 15 July |
| Master, German-taught, and Leadership & Psychology | Summer (April) | 15 January |
| Master, Accounting and Finance | Winter (October) | 15 June |
| Master, Global Logistics | Winter (October) | 15 June |
| Master, Global Logistics | Summer (April) | 15 December |
| Bachelor, NC (restricted admission) programmes | Winter (October) | 15 July |
| Bachelor, NC (restricted admission) programmes | Summer (April) | 15 January |
| Bachelor, non-restricted programmes | Winter (October) | 1 September |
| Bachelor, non-restricted programmes | Summer (April) | 1 March |
Deadlines are final; late or incomplete applications are not considered through uni-assist. Individual faculties or programmes may set additional requirements.
How do you apply to Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences?
Through uni-assist e.V., which pre-checks your university entrance qualification for a handling fee of about 75 EUR for the first application and about 30 EUR for each further one. You apply through the My.uni-assist portal, answer the mandatory questions, and submit your documents digitally; nothing needs to be posted separately. Once uni-assist forwards your application, Frankfurt UAS opens an account for you in its own system, FranCa, usually within a week, where you track the decision.
Pick your programme and check its language
Most Bachelor's programmes and most Master's programmes are taught in German and require German at C1 level at application (DSH-2 at enrolment); only five Master's programmes are taught entirely in English.
Register in the My.uni-assist portal
Select up to three programmes, in priority order, and upload your certificates, transcripts and language proof; certificates not issued in German or English need a certified translation.
Submit before your deadline, then keep checking FranCa
The date uni-assist receives your complete application is what counts, not the date you sent it; late or incomplete applications are not considered, and this cannot be extended even if the deadline falls on a weekend.
Wait for the decision, then start your visa
Frankfurt UAS creates your FranCa account roughly a week after uni-assist forwards your file; you need the admission letter for your visa appointment, and appointments in peak season take six to twelve weeks.

How many programmes are taught in English?
Frankfurt UAS names its own count rather than leaving it to a directory: five Master's degree programmes are taught entirely in English — Advanced Architecture, Electrical Engineering (Renewable Energy), Global Logistics, High Integrity Systems, and Information Technology — concentrated in engineering, architecture and IT. No Bachelor's programme is taught entirely in English; a handful of German-taught Bachelor's programmes (for example International Business Administration and International Finance) additionally require English at B1 or B2 level alongside the standard German C1 requirement. Applicants targeting one of the five English-taught Master's programmes can study without German, though everyday German still helps with housing, part-time work and the authorities.
Which English certificates does Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences accept?
Frankfurt UAS does not run one central IELTS/TOEFL scale the way many universities do. German proficiency is the primary requirement for almost every programme; English is only an additional requirement for a specific list of Bachelor's programmes, set at CEFR level rather than a named test score, and each of the five English-taught Master's programmes publishes its own accepted certificates and scores in a separate PDF rather than on the central page. If your prior degree's language of instruction already matches the language required, uni-assist can waive the additional certificate after verifying it.
| Certificate | Typical range |
|---|---|
| CEFR level, Bachelor's programmes requiring English alongside German (e.g. International Business Administration, International Finance, Business Information Systems) | B1 to B2, set per programme |
| IELTS Academic, English-taught Master's programmes | 6.5–7.0 |
| TOEFL iBT, English-taught Master's programmes | ~90–100 |
| Cambridge English, English-taught Master's programmes | B2 First (FCE) up to C1 Advanced (CAE) |
The exact score and accepted test are set per programme, so check the linked PDF or the programme page before booking a test.
When does the semester start?
Work backwards from the lecture start rather than the semester start. The winter semester formally begins on 1 October, but lectures start on 12 October 2026, and you want to be in Frankfurt a few weeks before that for city registration, a bank account and a room.
| Semester | Semester period | Lecture period |
|---|---|---|
| Winter 2026/27 | 1 Oct 2026 to 31 Mar 2027 | 12 Oct 2026 to 29 Jan 2027 |
| Summer 2027 | 1 Apr 2027 to 30 Sep 2027 | 5 Apr 2027 to 9 Jul 2027 |
About Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
One of Germany's largest universities of applied sciences, founded on 1 August 1971 from older engineering, business and social-work schools whose roots go back to 1908, and based on a compact urban campus at Nibelungenplatz in central Frankfurt. Its four faculties, Architecture / Civil Engineering / Geomatics, Computer Science and Engineering, Business and Law, and Social Work and Health, are taught with a strong practical orientation: mandatory internships, applied projects and theses done in cooperation with companies.
Its location matters for an international student specifically, since Frankfurt is Germany's banking and financial capital, home to the European Central Bank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, which makes internships and working-student jobs in finance, IT and logistics unusually easy to find nearby.
Frequently asked questions
Does Frankfurt UAS use uni-assist?
Yes. All applicants with a foreign qualification, EU and non-EU alike, apply through uni-assist e.V., which pre-checks documents for a handling fee of about 75 EUR for the first application. Frankfurt UAS then opens its own FranCa account for you once uni-assist forwards your file.
Do I need German to study at Frankfurt UAS?
Yes, for almost every programme. Only five Master's programmes are taught entirely in English; everything else, including most Bachelor's programmes, requires German at C1 level when you apply and DSH-2 (or an equivalent) when you enrol, with no exemption for German citizenship alone.
What does Frankfurt UAS require when you enrol?
Your admission letter, passport and residence documents, and (unless already proven) your DSH-2 or equivalent German certificate. You also need German health insurance before enrolment; public student cover costs about 125 EUR per month. See our health insurance comparison.
Does an English-taught Bachelor's replace the language test?
No. Frankfurt UAS requires German proficiency for enrolment regardless of the language your prior degree was taught in, since almost no Bachelor's programme here is taught in English. For the handful of Bachelor's programmes that additionally require English, a degree already taught in the required language can waive only that English requirement, not the German one.
What is the semester contribution and what does it cover?
406.78 EUR for winter 2026/27. Of that, 226.80 EUR is the Deutschlandticket, and the rest funds the Studierendenwerk, the student body, legal expenses insurance, a bike-rental scheme and administration. It is recalculated each semester.
