How much does HafenCity University Hamburg cost for international students?
HCU Hamburg's semester contribution and fees page lists no tuition fees for its Bachelor's and Master's programmes, only the semester contribution and administrative fees for individual services.
Every student pays the semester contribution of 399.00 EUR for winter 2026/27. Of that, 226.80 EUR is the semester ticket for public transport.

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?

HCU distinguishes by where the qualification was obtained, not by nationality. Everyone applies through the ahoi portal from 1 June. Applicants whose school-leaving certificate (Bachelor) or first degree (Master) is from outside Germany must also apply to uni-assist, whose period opens on 1 March. The closing date is the same for everyone and is a strict cut-off. HCU admits in winter only.
How many programmes are taught in English?
Two programmes, both at Master level:
- Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning (REAP, Master)
- Urban Design (Master)
The Hydrography specialisation of the Master Geodesy and Geoinformatics is also taught in English. All Bachelor's programmes require German.
