How much does Detmold University of Music cost for international students?
Detmold University of Music charges no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike, because North Rhine-Westphalia does not charge tuition fees at public universities.
Every student pays the semester contribution of 357.80 EUR for winter 2026/27. Of that, 226.80 EUR is the Deutschland-Semesterticket, which covers public transport across Germany.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | 357.80 EUR per semester |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master | Winter (October) | 15 March (registration 15 February to 15 March) |
| Bachelor and Master | Summer (April) | 1 November (registration 1 October to 1 November) |
Detmold publishes one set of dates for all applicants; there is no separate earlier date for non-EU applicants. The dates are the registration periods for the entrance exam. Exams for winter 2027/28 take place in June 2027; exams for summer 2028 take place from 13 to 20 January 2028. Not every programme admits in summer, and Music Acoustics starts in winter only.
How many programmes are taught in English?
One programme, at Master's level:
- Music Acoustics (M.Sc.)
All other programmes require German. Detmold accepts German or English language proof depending on the programme, but that does not make a programme English-taught, so check the language requirement for your programme before applying.
