How much does Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media cost for international students?
HMTM Hannover charges no general tuition fees, for EU and non-EU students alike. Students who have used up their study allowance pay a long-term study fee of 500 EUR per semester, and fee-charging add-on programmes (Ergänzungsstudiengänge) charge tuition on top; check those amounts with the university.
Every student pays a semester contribution, which differs by campus: for winter 2026/27, 413 EUR at the main campus (Neues Haus) and 445 EUR at the Expo Plaza campus. It covers 226.80 EUR for the Deutschland-Semesterticket, 75 EUR administration fee, the Studentenwerk (98 or 130 EUR) and 13.20 EUR for the student body.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master | No tuition fees |
| Long-term study fee | 500 EUR per semester |
| Semester contribution, Neues Haus campus | 413 EUR per semester (winter 2026/27) |
| Semester contribution, Expo Plaza campus | 445 EUR per semester (winter 2026/27) |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Programme | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Music programmes (except M.A. Musicology and Music Mediation) | Winter (October) | 15 March (period from 15 February, via muvac) |
| M.A. Musicology and Music Mediation | Winter (October) | 15 June (period from 20 May) |
| Acting (Diploma) | Summer (April) | 15 November (period from 15 September) |

HMTM publishes one set of dates for all applicants; there is no separate non-EU date. Music applicants register through the muvac portal for an entrance audition and can apply for at most three programmes. Applications received after the deadline are not accepted.
How many programmes are taught in English?
None confirmed. HMTM publishes no list of English-taught programmes. The Master in Chamber Music and the Solo Class require no German certificate, and two specialisations of the M.A. Music Research and Music Education accept English instead of German; check the language of instruction with the university before you apply.
