IHL is a state-recognised private university and charges its own tuition fees. The fees are the same for all students, and IHL lists no extra fee for non-EU students.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's tuition | 405 EUR per month (2,430 EUR per semester) |
| Master's tuition | 110 EUR per ECTS credit for modules, 65 EUR per credit for the thesis |

The fees apply from 1 September 2026. IHL charges the Master's per module, so the total depends on the modules you take. Confirm the current fees with IHL before you apply.

What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master | Winter | Usually 30 April (portal opens in December) |
| All programmes | Summer | No summer intake |
The deadline for winter 2027/28 has not been published yet. Last year applications closed on 30 April, with an extension to 15 June. Applicants from abroad should contact the International Office (international@ihl.eu) early and confirm the date, so there is enough time for the visa.
Admission is faith-based. You are usually expected to have done at least a year of voluntary service in a Christian congregation, community or youth association, to affirm IHL's aims and respect other beliefs, and to send a CV that describes your spiritual development. You also need a police certificate and a personal interview at IHL.
How many programmes are taught in English?
IHL offers 1 Bachelor's programme in English: Theology / Development Studies (B.A., English version). It is a full-time, on-campus programme of 8 semesters. Most courses are taught in English. A few theology courses are in German, with AI translation offered, and you can take exams in English or German. Applications for this programme are submitted in English.
All other programmes, including both Master's degrees, are taught in German. The Master's programmes require German at C1 and an exam in Biblical Greek.
