Mannheim Business School for International Students

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Mannheim Business School (MBS) runs its own online application for each program, so there is no uni-assist account, though a non-refundable application fee of 150 EUR applies for the Full-Time MBA. MBS charges full tuition for every program it runs, from 47,000 EUR for the Full-Time MBA to several times that for its Executive MBA tracks, so "no tuition fees" never applies here the way it does at a public university. Applicants from outside the EU who need a student visa face a final application deadline of 31 May 2026 for the Full-Time MBA's September 2026 intake, two months earlier than the 31 July deadline that applies to applicants who need neither a visa nor an APS certificate.

How much does Mannheim Business School cost for international students?

Unlike a public German university, MBS charges full tuition at every level, for EU and non-EU students alike. The Full-Time MBA costs 47,000 EUR for the whole 12 to 15-month programme, and MBS's other programmes range from the Part-Time MBA up to the two-country ESSEC & MANNHEIM and MANNHEIM & TONGJI Executive MBAs, which run considerably higher.

Alongside the programme fee, students are enrolled at the University of Mannheim for the duration of their degree and pay that university's semester contribution: 194 EUR for winter 2026/27, made up of an administrative fee, the Studierendenwerk contribution and the student body fee.

Application fee (Full-Time MBA)150 EUR, non-refundable
Semester contribution (University of Mannheim, everyone)194 EUR per semester

No tuition-free status here does not remove the proof-of-funds requirement either. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

MBS runs rolling admissions with early-bird rounds rather than a single non-EU deadline, but the final cut-off for the Full-Time MBA's September 2026 intake depends on what an applicant needs before the programme starts, and international applicants needing a visa face an earlier final deadline than applicants who do not.

MBS admission is by MBS's own committee, not a numerus clausus process, so restricted-admission deadlines don't apply here.

How do you apply to Mannheim Business School?

1

Pick your programme and check its language

MBS teaches every programme in English; German is not required for study but is encouraged for daily life. Requirements, work-experience minimums and language scores are set per programme, not centrally.

2

Register in MBS's online application portal

Create your application, submit two personal essays, transcripts, an English test score, and (for the MBA tracks) a GMAT or GRE score. Referees are contacted directly by MBS once you submit.

3

Submit before your deadline, then complete the selection process

Full-Time MBA deadlines run from an early first early-bird round on 30 November 2025 through to the final deadlines above. A first interview and case study follow if your application is shortlisted.

4

Then start to prepare your visa

The Admissions Committee notifies successful applicants within about a week of the final interview. You need the admission letter and contract for your visa appointment, and appointments in peak season take six to twelve weeks.

Open the Mannheim Full-Time MBA admissions page.

How many programmes are taught in English?

MBS teaches all 8 of its postgraduate programmes fully in English: the Full-Time and Part-Time MBA, three Executive MBA tracks, and three specialised Master's programmes in accounting and taxation, management analytics and AI, and sustainable business and technology. Every one of them is a postgraduate qualification. MBS itself offers no Bachelor's degree; a prospective Bachelor's student applies directly to the University of Mannheim's own Bachelor's programme in Business Administration instead, which is a separate application outside MBS. You can study any MBS programme without German, though everyday German still helps with housing, part-time work and the authorities.

Which English certificates does Mannheim Business School accept?

IELTS Academic and TOEFL iBT are the standard for the Full-Time MBA, with a GMAT or GRE score also expected for every MBA and EMBA track. A higher GMAT/GRE score earns a small tuition discount.

CertificateTypical range
IELTS Academic7.0 minimum (Full-Time MBA)
TOEFL iBT95 minimum (Full-Time MBA)
CambridgeC1 Advanced (Part-Time MBA)
GMAT / GREAround 600 GMAT (10th Edition) or 565 GMAT Focus Edition recommended
Bachelor's degree waiver (Medium of Instruction)Check per programme

Exact scores and whether GMAT/GRE is required or only recommended can vary by programme, so check your specific programme page before booking a test.

When does the semester start?

MBS programmes do not run on the standard German two-semester calendar. The Full-Time MBA has a single annual intake that begins in September, so there is no separate winter or summer lecture period to plan around for that programme. Work backwards from the September start rather than a semester date, and allow time before that for city registration, a bank account and a room.

About Mannheim Business School

Mannheim Business School is the umbrella organisation for management education at the University of Mannheim, founded in 2005 when the university bundled its MBA and executive education activity into a single non-profit Ltd (gGmbH), owned by the University of Mannheim and the Prechel Foundation. It is the only German business school triple-accredited by AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA, and its academic responsibility and degree-awarding power sit with the professors of the University of Mannheim's Business School, a public university, rather than with MBS itself.

The campus sits inside Mannheim Palace in the city centre, close to the Rhine-Neckar region's dense concentration of multinational employers, which is why MBS's programmes lean heavily on company projects, corporate partnerships and executive-track cohorts rather than a general undergraduate population. Mannheim sits within reach of Heidelberg, Frankfurt and the wider Rhine-Neckar economic region.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mannheim Business School use uni-assist?

No. Every MBS programme is applied for directly through MBS's own online application portal. That means no uni-assist account and no uni-assist processing fee, though the Full-Time MBA carries its own non-refundable application fee of 150 EUR.

Do I need German to study at Mannheim Business School?

No. All 8 MBS programmes are taught fully in English, and German is not an admission requirement for any of them. MBS strongly encourages international participants to start German lessons before the programme begins, since daily life outside class runs in German.

What does Mannheim Business School require when you enrol?

Because your degree is conferred by the University of Mannheim, you enrol there as well as at MBS: expect German health insurance, your admission letter and contract from MBS, and your passport and residence documents. The insurance certificate has to come from a German insurer, and public student cover costs about 125 EUR per month. See our health insurance comparison.

What is the semester contribution and what does it cover?

194 EUR for winter 2026/27, paid to the University of Mannheim rather than to MBS. It covers an administrative fee, the Studierendenwerk contribution and the student body fee.

Is a GMAT or GRE score required?

For the Full-Time MBA, MBS asks for a GMAT (around 600, 10th Edition, or 565 on the GMAT Focus Edition) or an equivalent GRE score, recommended rather than strictly mandatory. A higher score earns a small tuition discount on admission.
