Nothing in tuition for the Bachelor's programmes (Human Medicine, Dentistry, Midwifery Science, Biology) and for the German-taught, consecutive Master's programmes (Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Public Health, Biomedical Data Science), because Lower Saxony funds MHH as a public institution like any other state university in the region.

What every student pays is the semester contribution, and it is not a fee for teaching. For winter 2026/27 it is 407.80 EUR, of which 226.80 EUR is the semester ticket for public transport in the Hannover region and regional rail across Lower Saxony and Bremen, with the rest split between student services (Studentenwerk Hannover), the student union (AStA) and an administrative fee. The amount is set each semester, so it changes.

The one exception is the Master's in Infectious Diseases and One Health (IDOH), a joint Erasmus Mundus degree run with Université de Tours and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona: alongside the ordinary semester contribution, it carries its own programme fee of 4,500 EUR per year for EU (programme-country) students and 9,000 EUR per year for non-EU (partner-country) students, billed by the consortium rather than by MHH's own enrolment office.

No tuition doesn't mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

MHH takes new undergraduate students only for the winter semester (courses start in October); there is no summer intake for Human Medicine, Dentistry or Midwifery Science. Deadlines for non-EU applicants differ by programme and are set by three different bodies rather than by MHH itself.

There is no single MHH application portal. Human Medicine and Dentistry places are allocated through the nationwide Hochschulstart procedure, or through uni-assist if you are not on equal footing with German applicants for admissions purposes; MHH names both routes and tells applicants to check which one applies to their nationality and qualification. The Infectious Diseases and One Health Master runs on a separate, joint application system operated by the Erasmus Mundus IDOH consortium together with Université de Tours and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, so an MHH-only application account does not exist for that programme either.

MHH teaches exactly two programmes fully in English: the Master's in Infectious Diseases and One Health, a joint Erasmus Mundus degree with Université de Tours and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and the Master's in Midwifery Science. Both are Master's level and both sit in the health sciences; there is no English-taught Bachelor's or English-taught Human Medicine or Dentistry track. You can study either of these two Master's without German, though B2-level German still helps day to day, since patients, ward rounds and clinical conferences run in German even on an English-taught programme.

English-language certificates apply only to the two English-taught Master's programmes; every other route at MHH asks for a German certificate instead (typically category A or A+, roughly B2 level), and MHH states plainly that no preparatory German courses or German exams are offered on site.

Founded in 1965, MHH is Germany's only free-standing medical university, built on an integration model that puts patient care, research and teaching under one roof on a single campus in the Roderbruch district of eastern Hannover. It is one of Germany's largest transplant centres and works closely with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research and Fraunhofer ITEM, both nearby, which is why research placements are easy to combine with study here.

For an international student the defining fact is the language: almost the entire course catalogue, including Human Medicine and Dentistry, is taught in German, and only the Infectious Diseases and One Health and Midwifery Science Master's programmes are taught in English, so MHH suits applicants who either already have German or want one of those two specific Master's degrees rather than a broad English-taught catalogue.
