How much does OTH Regensburg cost for international students?
OTH Regensburg states that there are no tuition fees at Bavarian universities. All students pay a semester contribution, currently 208 EUR for winter semester 2026/27. Since winter semester 2024/25, OTH Regensburg additionally charges non-EU students a 500 EUR service fee per semester in five named programmes: International Computer Science, International Electrical Engineering, International Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Microsystems Engineering, and Mathematics for Business and Industry. International Management is not subject to this service fee.
The 208 EUR semester contribution includes the RVV semester ticket and the Studierendenwerk contribution. It is due at enrolment for the first semester and before the re-registration deadline in later semesters.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor (most programmes) | No tuition fees |
| Bachelor, English-taught (BSc International Computer Science, BEng International Electrical Engineering, BEng International Mechanical Engineering) | No tuition fees, plus 500 EUR/semester non-EU service fee |
| Master (most programmes) | No tuition fees |
| Master, English-taught with service fee (MEng Electrical and Microsystems Engineering, MSc Mathematics for Business and Industry) | No tuition fees, plus 500 EUR/semester non-EU service fee |
| Master in International Management | No tuition fees, no service fee (explicitly exempt) |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | 208 EUR per semester (winter 2026/27) |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
OTH Regensburg publishes application deadlines on the individual degree-programme pages rather than one university-wide non-EU deadline. Applicants must use the deadline shown for their exact programme and semester.
| Programme | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| International Computer Science (restricted admission, NC) | Winter | 1 May – 15 July |
| International Mechanical Engineering / International Electrical Engineering | Winter | 1 May – 15 September |
| International Management | Winter | 1 May – 15 June |
| Mathematics for Business and Industry | Winter / Summer | 1 May – 31 July / 15 Nov – 15 Jan |
| Electrical and Microsystems Engineering | Winter / Summer | 1 May – 31 May / 15 Nov – 15 Dec |
Restricted-admission status and deadlines are programme-specific: International Computer Science is restricted admission (NC) with a winter deadline of 15 July, while International Mechanical Engineering and International Electrical Engineering are not restricted and currently close on 15 September.
How do you apply to OTH Regensburg?
Applications are submitted through OTH Regensburg's application portal. For Bachelor applicants with most non-German school qualifications, a uni-assist VPD is required before the OTH application can be completed. Applicants with certificates from China or Vietnam generally submit the relevant APS certificate instead; if the APS certificate contains no grade, a VPD is also required. Applicants with Indian certificates need an APS certificate to request the VPD. A VPD is not required for an International Baccalaureate/AbiBac, a German school abroad, or a completed Studienkolleg/FSP. Master requirements are programme-specific; International Management, for example, requires a VPD for foreign first degrees.
Pick your programme and check its language
Check the programme page for its language, admission status, exact deadline and whether a VPD is required. The three international Bachelor programmes start with English instruction but include compulsory German development and later German/English options; the international Master programmes can be completed in English.
Register in the OTH Regensburg application portal
If your programme requires a VPD, request it from uni-assist early; uni-assist states that processing usually takes four to six weeks. Then submit the application itself in OTH Regensburg's online portal and upload the documents required by the programme. A uni-assist VPD is a certificate evaluation, not a direct application to OTH Regensburg.
Submit before your deadline
Submit the OTH Regensburg application by the exact deadline on the programme page. Where a VPD is required, the programme page states whether it must be available by the application deadline or a document-submission deadline; merely having requested the VPD is not sufficient when the VPD itself is required.
Then start to prepare your visa
If you need a visa, OTH Regensburg advises checking visa waiting times and procedures before applying because waits can be long. Admission letters are valid only for one semester and admission cannot be deferred.
uni-assist handling fee: 75 EUR for the first chosen course of study in a semester and 30 EUR for each additional chosen course in the same semester; the same fees apply to the VPD procedure.
How many programmes are taught in English?
Using the strict CMS definition of a degree that can genuinely be completed in English, OTH Regensburg currently has 3 fully English-taught degree programmes: M.A. International Management, M.Eng. Electrical and Microsystems Engineering, and M.Sc. Mathematics for Business and Industry. OTH Regensburg explicitly states that its international Master programmes can be completed entirely in English without German. The three international Bachelor programmes (International Computer Science, International Mechanical Engineering and International Electrical Engineering) are mainly English-language but are not counted here because instruction gradually shifts toward German as the degree progresses, with later semesters offering German- and English-language classes.
Which English certificates does OTH Regensburg accept?
English requirements are programme-specific. International Computer Science requires B1 English (B2 recommended) and publishes IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge thresholds. International Management and Mathematics for Business and Industry require B2 and publish higher test thresholds. OTH Regensburg states that only certificates listed on the relevant programme page are accepted, so there is no single university-wide score table.
| Certificate | Typical range |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 5.0 for International Computer Science (min. 4.0 each component); 6.0 for International Management and Mathematics for Business and Industry |
| TOEFL iBT | 58 for International Computer Science; 85 for International Management and Mathematics for Business and Industry |
| Cambridge | B1 or higher for International Computer Science; B2 / Cambridge English Qualification 170 for International Management and Mathematics for Business and Industry |
| Medium of Instruction waiver | Programme-specific: International Computer Science accepts completed secondary or higher education in English with evidence where needed; International Management accepts a first degree taught entirely in English |
Always use the exact requirement on your programme page.
When does the semester start?

|---|---|---|
| Winter 2026/27 | 1 Oct 2026 to 14 Mar 2027 | 1 Oct 2026 to 22 Jan 2027 |
What does it cost to live in Regensburg?
Regensburg has a large student population and affordable accommodation is increasingly difficult to find. Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz operates student residences in Regensburg, with rents varying by building and room type; apply early once eligible, since availability is limited.

Frequently asked questions
Does OTH Regensburg use uni-assist?
For Bachelor applicants with most non-German school qualifications, OTH Regensburg requires a uni-assist VPD before the university application; important exceptions include China/Vietnam APS pathways and qualifications such as IB/AbiBac, German schools abroad and completed Studienkolleg/FSP. Master requirements are programme-specific; International Management, for example, requires a VPD for foreign first degrees. Applications themselves are submitted through OTH Regensburg's portal.
Do I need German to study at OTH Regensburg?
For the three international Master programmes, OTH Regensburg states that the degree can be completed entirely in English without German. The three international Bachelor programmes start in English but require A2 German and progressively introduce German, so they are not counted as fully English-taught in this guide. Check the exact language requirements on your programme page.
What does OTH Regensburg require when you enrol?
For enrolment, OTH Regensburg requires health-insurance status to be transmitted electronically by a German statutory health insurer (M10 notification). Students who are privately insured must contact a statutory German insurer so that the exemption/status can be transmitted electronically; paper membership certificates are not accepted. Other enrolment documents depend on the admission/enrolment request in the portal.
Does an English-taught Bachelor replace the language test?
An English-medium qualification can replace a separate English test only where the programme page explicitly allows it. International Computer Science accepts completed secondary or higher education in English with suitable evidence, including a Medium of Instruction confirmation where needed. International Management accepts a first degree taught entirely in English. No university-wide waiver rule should be assumed.
What is the semester contribution and what does it cover?
208 EUR per semester for winter semester 2026/27. It includes the RVV semester ticket and the Studierendenwerk contribution. It is due at enrolment for the first semester and before re-registration deadlines thereafter.
