How much does Heidelberg University of Education cost for international students?
PH Heidelberg charges non-EU students 1,500 EUR per semester in Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes, as all state universities in Baden-Württemberg do; applicants who obtained their school-leaving qualification in Germany are exempt. A second degree costs 650 EUR per semester; teacher-training Bachelor's and Master's programmes and the M.Sc. Ingenieurpädagogik are exempt.
Every student also pays a semester contribution, which PH Heidelberg currently gives as 192.80 EUR. The Studierendenwerk share rises to 95 EUR from winter 2026/27, so the total may be higher; confirm the amount before you enrol.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor and consecutive Master (non-EU, foreign qualification) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Bachelor and Master (EU, or German qualification) | No tuition fees |
| Second degree (outside teacher training) | 650 EUR per semester |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | About 192.80 EUR per semester |
Tuition fees come on top of the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher-training Bachelor | Winter / Summer | 15 July / 15 January |
| Master of Education | Winter / Summer | 15 May / 15 November |
| Master outside teacher training | Winter / Summer | 15 May / 15 January |
The university publishes one set of dates for all applicants, and the deadlines are strict cut-offs. Non-EU applicants need a uni-assist pre-check before applying, and 8% of places are reserved for foreign applicants. Some dates come from the university's 2024 information brochure, so confirm the current deadline in the application portal before you apply.
How many programmes are taught in English?
None. All programmes are taught in German, and applicants need German at DSH-2 or equivalent. Only individual courses are offered in English.
