How much does Karlsruhe University of Education cost for international students?
Karlsruhe University of Education charges international students from outside the EU and EEA tuition of 1,500 EUR per semester, because Baden-Württemberg state law (LHGebG) sets this fee at all public universities in the state. Exemptions apply, for example for holders of certain residence permits and for people who already completed a Bachelor's and a Master's in Germany. A second degree costs 650 EUR per semester. Applicants whose foreign certificate is checked by the university pay a one-off fee of 50 EUR.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Master (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Second degree | 650 EUR per semester |
| Certificate check for foreign applicants (one-off) | 50 EUR |
Tuition fees do not replace the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year (2026), usually in a blocked account, on top of the 1,500 EUR per semester you pay the university.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master (except Master of Education) | Winter 2027/28 (October) | 15 July 2027 |
| Master of Education (teacher training) | Summer 2027 (April) | 15 November 2026 |
| Master of Education (teacher training) | Winter 2027/28 (October) | 15 May 2027 |
The university publishes one set of dates and no separate date for non-EU applicants. Bachelor's and most Master's programmes admit in winter only. Applications go through the university's own online portal with hard copies by the deadline; uni-assist is not used. The language certificate is due by 30 September (winter) or 31 March (summer); applicants from China, Vietnam and India need an APS certificate; 8% of first-degree places are reserved for non-EU applicants. German is required at DSH-2, TestDaF 4 in all sections, telc C1 Hochschule or equivalent.
How many programmes are taught in English?
Karlsruhe University of Education offers no degree programme taught in English. In the university's words: "with the exception of a few courses, our degree programmes are taught exclusively in German." Teacher-training degrees with English as a school subject are not English-taught degrees.
