How much does Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
HSRW is a state university in North Rhine-Westphalia and charges no tuition fees, for EU and non-EU students alike. Every student pays the semester contribution, which is set each semester.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's | No tuition fees |
| Master's | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 365.10 EUR per semester, incl. 226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket |
| uni-assist application fee | 75 EUR first application, 30 EUR each further one |
The Deutschlandticket covers local and regional public transport throughout Germany. No tuition does not mean no proof of funds: for the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
HSRW sets one deadline for all applicants, regardless of country of origin. If you earned your school-leaving qualification outside Germany, you cannot use the university portal directly and must apply via uni-assist.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's programmes | Winter only | 15 July |
| Master's programmes | Winter | 15 July |
| Master's programmes | Summer | Usually 15 January; confirm on the HSRW application page |
The Master's in Bionics and Mechanical Engineering are not offered in winter 2026/27. Uni-assist needs several weeks to check your documents, so submit well before the deadline and leave enough time for the visa.
How many programmes are taught in English?
23 of HSRW's degree programmes are taught entirely in English: 16 Bachelor's and 7 Master's.
Bachelor's: Agribusiness, Bioengineering, Engineering, Engineering for Sustainability, Environment and Energy, Gender and Diversity, Information and Communication Design, Infotronic Systems Engineering, International Business Administration, International Business and Management, International Relations, International Taxation and Law, Mobility and Logistics, Nature-Inspired Materials, Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Tourism.
