How much does Sankt Georgen Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology cost for international students?
Sankt Georgen charges a study fee of 130 EUR per semester, the same for EU and non-EU students. On top come an administration fee, the student body fee and the Deutschlandsemesterticket for travel across Germany.
| Item (winter 2026/27) | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Study fee | 130 EUR per semester |
| Total per semester, Magister (incl. 25 EUR administration, 4.20 EUR student body and 226.80 EUR Deutschlandsemesterticket) | 386 EUR |
| Enrolment fee (first semester only) | 50 EUR, so 436 EUR in your first semester |
| After the standard period (Magister from the 14th semester) | Study fee rises to 260 EUR |
The study fee does not replace the proof-of-funds requirement. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account. Sankt Georgen itself estimates living costs at about 1,200 EUR per month.
What are the application deadlines?
Applicants with a school-leaving certificate from outside Germany first apply for admission online and send their documents to the Rector's theological advisor (schliephak@sankt-georgen.de). Sankt Georgen does not use uni-assist. When your documents are complete and your financing is confirmed, the school issues a confirmation of planned enrolment, which you need for the student visa.
| Degree | Intake | Enrolment deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Magister in Theology | Winter | 25 September |
| Magister in Theology | Summer | 25 March |
| Licentiate and doctorate | Winter / summer | Contact a Sankt Georgen professor first |
The university's own site publishes no separate application deadline; the dates above are the enrolment deadlines listed on Hochschulkompass. The visa process takes several months, so send your application well before these dates and confirm the timing with the Studierendensekretariat (studierendensekretariat@sankt-georgen.de). Doctoral applicants need a professor who agrees to supervise them, and licentiate applicants should contact a professor early.
How many programmes are taught in English?
No degree programme at Sankt Georgen is taught in English; all teaching is in German. You need German at C1 level, for example DSH-2 or TestDaF with at least 4 in all four parts. You will also need a letter of reference from a church official and, for theology, proof of Latin, Greek and Hebrew.
Two degrees can be studied full time: the Magister in Theology (Mag. theol., five years) and the Licentiate in Theology (Lic. theol.).
