How much does Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
Schmalkalden is a state university in Thuringia and charges no tuition fees for full-time Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike. Every student pays the semester contribution, which is set each semester.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's (full-time) | No tuition fees |
| Master's (full-time) | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (winter 2026/27) | 331.80 EUR per semester, incl. 226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket |
Part-time distance-learning programmes charge their own fees and do not support a student visa. No tuition does not mean no proof of funds: for the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
You apply online directly to Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences; uni-assist is not needed. Applicants with a degree from China, India or Vietnam need an APS certificate.

Not every programme starts in both semesters: the English Bachelor's in Mechatronics and Robotics admits in summer only, and all German-taught Bachelor's start in winter. Some official pages list later dates for individual English-taught programmes (up to 15 June / 15 December), so confirm the date on your programme page; the dates above are the safe ones for visa applicants.
