How much does Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education cost for international students?

Students from outside the EU and EEA pay a tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester. The fee is set by Baden-Württemberg state law and has applied since winter 2017/18. EU and EEA citizens pay no tuition, and neither do holders of a German school-leaving qualification, exchange students from partner universities or refugees. A limited number of non-EU students can be exempted for outstanding ability under the university's own exemption statute.

The semester contribution does not include a Deutschlandticket, and the amount can change each semester.

The tuition fee is separate from the proof of funds. For the student visa you also need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

Non-EU applicants with a foreign school-leaving certificate have earlier deadlines than EU applicants, whose general winter deadlines are 15 July or 15 September depending on the programme. Late applications are not considered.

How many programmes are taught in English?

One programme at PH Gmünd has English entry requirements: the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Education, Migration, and Diversity (EDU_MIG), run with the University of Gävle (Sweden) and the University of Calabria (Italy). It asks for English such as IELTS Academic 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 95 and is described as multilingual, with teaching in English and other languages. Students spend the first semester in Schwäbisch Gmünd and then move as a cohort to the partner universities abroad.

All other Bachelor's and Master's programmes, including all teacher-training degrees, are taught in German and require German at C1 level (DSH-2 or TestDaF 4x4).
