How much does Technical University of Darmstadt cost for international students?
TU Darmstadt is a state university in Hesse and charges no tuition fees for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike.
What every student pays is the semester contribution, which is not a fee for teaching. The amount is set each semester, so it can change.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's and Master's | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (winter 2026/27) | 402.68 EUR per semester (352.68 EUR contribution incl. 226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket + 50 EUR Hesse administration fee) |
| Late payment | 30 EUR extra |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
TU Darmstadt publishes one set of dates for all applicants, German and international. The 15 July date is a cut-off deadline that cannot be extended. Deadlines are set per programme, so check your programme in the university's deadline table.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's, restricted admission | Winter | 15 July |
| Bachelor's, open admission | Winter | 31 August |
| Master's, cut-off programmes (including most English-taught) | Winter | 15 July |
| Master's, other programmes | Winter | 31 August |
| Master's | Summer | Usually 15 January; confirm with TU Darmstadt |
For 25 Master's programmes, the portal opens early for international applicants (from 1 September for the summer semester) to leave time for the visa. Master's applications take six to eight weeks to review, so apply early.
