How much does Elstal Theological Seminary cost for international students?
TH Elstal is a state-recognised university run by the Union of Evangelical Free Church Congregations (Baptists) in Germany. Full-time students pay a semester fee of 360 EUR; no separate tuition and no separate rate for non-EU students is published. The seminary states that students can refinance part of the fee through campus jobs. Ask the seminary whether a public transport ticket is included or paid on top.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master, full-time | 360 EUR semester fee |
| Theology and Innovative Church Development (M.A., part-time) | 1,800 EUR per semester (not suitable for a student visa) |
A low fee does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| B.A. and M.A. Evangelical Theology | Winter | 15 July |
| B.A. and M.A. Evangelical Theology | Summer | 15 January |
| M.A. Diakonie and Social Theology | Winter | 15 July |
Applications go directly to the seminary; admission rules are set in its Aufnahmeordnung. The dates above are those listed for TH Elstal in the national university directory, with no separate date for non-EU applicants. Confirm them with the study office before applying, and if you need a visa, apply well before the deadline.
How many programmes are taught in English?
None. TH Elstal offers no degree programme taught in English; teaching is in German. The full-time programmes are the Bachelor's in Evangelical Theology (B.A., 6 semesters), the Master's in Evangelical Theology (M.A.), which requires a Bachelor's in theology and includes a seven-week supervised congregational placement, and the Master's in Diakonie and Social Theology (M.A.). A further Master's, Theology and Innovative Church Development, is part-time alongside work and does not lead to a student visa.
