Tuition itself is free only for EU and EEA students. As a public university in Baden-Württemberg, the one German state that still charges international tuition, TH Mannheim bills non-EU students 1,500 EUR per semester at both Bachelor's and Master's level. A small set of exemptions exist, among them Erasmus students, students arriving through a state or university partnership agreement, double-degree students at TH Mannheim, and asylum seekers holding an Aufenthaltsgestattung.

Everyone, regardless of nationality, also pays the semester contribution: 194.60 EUR for winter 2025/26. The amount is set by the state and re-registered each semester.

No tuition for EU students, and even a fee for non-EU students, does not remove the visa proof-of-funds requirement. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, transferred months before the semester starts.

TH Mannheim publishes one general deadline pattern for degree-seeking applicants (15 July for restricted-admission courses, 21 September for unrestricted courses, winter 2026/27), but for its four English-track international programmes, non-EU applicants are told explicitly to apply much earlier, by 15 May or 15 November, because of the time a student visa takes.

Through TH Mannheim's own Online Application Portal (Campusportal, built on HISinOne), not uni-assist. That means no uni-assist account and no uni-assist processing fee. Documents are uploaded directly in the portal; the university asks applicants not to phone in for status updates and to check the portal instead.

TH Mannheim's own international-programmes page lists four English-track degrees: three Bachelor's, Electrical Engineering (EEB, English for the first two semesters, then German), Engineering & Management International (EMB, fully English) and International Engineering (INB, fully English on the General Engineering specialization, partly German on the other three), plus one Master's, Biotechnology, fully English. This is unusual among partner universities in that the English offer is Bachelor-heavy rather than concentrated at Master's level. Two further programmes, in Chemical/Process Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, are German/French double degrees and not part of the English count. All four English-track programmes can be started without German, though everyday German still helps with housing, part-time work and the authorities.

The four international programmes ask for an official English certificate as part of the application, but TH Mannheim does not publish one central score table for all English-track programmes; each programme sets and states its own minimum on its own admissions page.

Work backwards from the lecture start, not the official semester period: city registration, a bank account and a room all take time, and TH Mannheim's lecture weeks are noticeably shorter than the full semester period on paper.

One of the larger universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg, TH Mannheim traces back to a private engineering school founded in 1898, taken over by the city of Mannheim in 1939 and by the State of Baden-Württemberg in 1969. Its strengths are mechanical, electrical, process and chemical engineering and computer science, and unlike most technical universities of applied sciences it also runs a Faculty of Design and a Faculty of Social Affairs, broadening the profile beyond pure engineering. It sits in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, one of Germany's stronger regional economies, with close industry ties that make internships and working-student jobs easy to find, and it shares housing and dining infrastructure with the University of Mannheim through a joint Studierendenwerk.
