EU and German students pay no tuition at TH Rosenheim, because Bavaria funds the university as a public institution. That is no longer the full picture for non-EU students: since summer semester 2026, TH Rosenheim charges international students from outside the EU a tuition fee of 500 EUR per semester, for both Bachelor's and Master's programmes, including students who were already enrolled from winter semester 2025/26 onward.

Exemptions exist, among others for students who hold a nationality with a reciprocal agreement, who already completed a degree or school qualification in Germany, or who have a long-term residence connection to Germany.

What every student pays, regardless of nationality, is the semester contribution: 97 EUR per semester, which goes to the Student Union (Studierendenwerk), not to public transport. Unlike most German universities, TH Rosenheim does not bundle a semester ticket into this contribution, so the Deutschlandticket has to be bought separately at the discounted student rate.

No tuition for EU students does not mean no proof of funds for anyone. For the student visa you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

These are non-EU deadlines, for applicants with a foreign school or university entrance qualification. TH Rosenheim does not publish one university-wide date: each degree programme sets its own application window, and the intake itself (winter or summer) differs by programme.

Applied Artificial Intelligence (B.Sc.), International Management (M.A.) and Advanced Industrial Engineering (M.Sc.) had already closed their winter 2026/27 application windows at the time of writing, so their next application period falls outside the window shown here. Deadlines vary by programme; always check the specific programme page rather than assuming one of the dates above.

Applicants with a foreign school or university entrance qualification apply through uni-assist, not directly through a TH Rosenheim portal. uni-assist charges its usual processing fee, about 75 EUR for the first application to a German university and 30 EUR for each further one in the same cycle. Once uni-assist has forwarded your application, TH Rosenheim's own Student Administration takes over for admission and enrolment.

TH Rosenheim teaches 13 of its more than 40 Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes fully in English: 8 Bachelor's programmes (Applied Artificial Intelligence, E-Commerce, International Bachelor of Engineering, International Bachelor of Wood Technology, Materials Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Smart Interactive Media, and Robotics and Machine Intelligence) and 5 Master's programmes (Advanced Industrial Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Hydrogen Technology, International Management, and Wood Technology), concentrated in engineering, computer science and wood technology. You can study these programmes without German for the language of instruction itself, though since January 2026 admission to any English-taught programme also requires German at level A2, and everyday German still helps with housing, part-time work and the authorities.

Admission to an English-taught programme needs proof of English at level B2 of the CEFR, but TH Rosenheim pairs it with a mandatory proof of German at level A2, both to be submitted before you begin your studies, not necessarily at application. A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree taught in English, or an international entrance qualification that certifies English as the medium of instruction, counts as proof of English B2 without a separate test, but it does not remove the German A2 requirement.

Work backwards from when teaching starts rather than the semester's administrative dates. TH Rosenheim's own calendar for international students runs a shorter, more compressed window than at research universities, so plan to be in Rosenheim in the weeks before for city registration, a bank account and a room.

TH Rosenheim traces back to a private wood-technology school, the Holztechnikum, founded in Rosenheim in 1925 and nationalised in 1943, before being reorganised as a technical university of applied sciences in 1971. Today it is a public university of applied sciences with around 6,400 students across four campuses, in Rosenheim, Burghausen, Mühldorf am Inn and Chiemgau (Traunstein), with particular strength in wood engineering and construction alongside business, engineering, design, healthcare and social studies.

It sits about an hour by car or train from both Munich and the Austrian city of Salzburg, in one of Bavaria's strongest regional economies, giving students in its practice-oriented Bachelor's and Master's programmes close links to nearby industry.
