How much does Technische Hochschule Ulm – University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?

THU is a public university in Baden-Württemberg, where students from outside the EU pay a state tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester. Applicants with a German university entrance qualification do not pay it, and some residence permits exempt you; the exemption must be applied for before the lecture period starts. A second degree costs 650 EUR per semester, unless your first degree was completed abroad or you move from a Bachelor's to a consecutive Master's.

ItemCost for international students

Tuition, second degree650 EUR per semester
Semester contribution (everyone)182 EUR per semester (87 EUR Studierendenwerk Ulm, 80 EUR state administrative fee, 15 EUR student body)

The semester contribution does not include a Deutschlandticket or semester ticket; Studierendenwerk Ulm offers the Deutschlandticket as a separate monthly subscription. Joint programmes with Ulm University or Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences have their own fee rules.

Whatever the fees, you still need proof of funds for the student visa: 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.

What are the application deadlines?

THU publishes one date for all applicants and no separate date for non-EU applicants; international applicants must meet the same admission requirements as German applicants. Deadlines are cut-off dates. You apply through THU's own portal, SELMA. If your school-leaving certificate is from outside the EU, it must first be recognised by the Studienkolleg Konstanz, and the certified recognition must reach THU by the deadline, so start early. Chinese applicants need an APS certificate.
