How much does Faculty of Theology Paderborn cost for international students?
The Faculty of Theology Paderborn is a state-recognised university run by the Archdiocese of Paderborn. Its enrolment page lists only the semester contribution as a charge; no tuition fee and no separate rate for non-EU students is published.
The semester contribution for winter 2026/27 is 246.80 EUR: 226.80 EUR for the Deutschlandsemesterticket, which covers public transport across Germany, and 20 EUR for the student body. Re-registering after the deadline costs an extra 15 EUR.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Magister Theologiae, Licentiate | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | 246.80 EUR per semester (winter 2026/27) |
| Late re-registration | 15 EUR |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Magister Theologiae (Catholic Theology) | Winter (October) | 1 September |
| Magister Theologiae (Catholic Theology) | Summer (April) | 1 March |
You apply in writing to the Dean within the deadline he sets, which as a rule is 1 September for winter and 1 March for summer, with the same dates for all applicants. You need a certified copy of your university entrance qualification (or, for the Licentiate and doctorate, a Magister or Master's degree), a CV, an original police certificate of good conduct and proof of health insurance. The faculty does not publish a German language requirement or rules for foreign certificates, so ask the Studienreferat (studienreferat@thf-paderborn.de). If you need a visa, contact the faculty several months before the deadline.
How many programmes are taught in English?
None. No degree programme at the Faculty of Theology Paderborn is taught in English; teaching is in German. Its main programme is the Magister Theologiae in Catholic Theology, a ten-semester full-time degree; graduates can continue to the Licentiate and the doctorate.
