How much does Trier University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
Trier University of Applied Sciences charges no tuition for consecutive Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because Rhineland-Palatinate charges no general tuition fees; since winter 2025/26 it also no longer charges a fee for a second degree. Fees apply to continuing Master's programmes and to the English-taught IMAT Master at the Birkenfeld campus.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master (consecutive) | No tuition fees |
| International Material Flow Management (IMAT), M.Sc. | 12,000 EUR for the whole programme, plus a 40 EUR application fee |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27, Main Campus) | 395.80 EUR, including 226.80 EUR for the Deutschlandticket and a one-time 23 EUR chip card fee |
The semester contribution at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld can differ slightly from the Main Campus figure, so check it with your campus. The amount is set each semester, so it changes.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
If you have a foreign school-leaving certificate, you apply through uni-assist and register in the university's online portal (studis.hochschule-trier.de). Applicants with certificates from China, India or Vietnam also need an APS certificate. The dates below apply to applicants with foreign certificates; applicants with German certificates have later dates (15 September and 15 March), which do not apply to you.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master, open admission | Winter | 31 July (documents by 15 August) |
| Bachelor and Master, open admission | Summer | 31 January (documents by 15 February) |
| Restricted-admission programmes (e.g. Business Psychology, B.Sc.) | Winter | 15 June |
| International Material Flow Management (IMAT), M.Sc. | Winter | 31 May, directly to the programme office |
| Programmes at the Campus for Design and Art and Birkenfeld | Winter / summer | See the programme page |
uni-assist processing takes several weeks, so send your application well before the deadline.
How many programmes are taught in English?
Three degree programmes are taught in English:
- International Business (B.A., Main Campus), which also requires German at A2 level
- Interdisciplinary Engineering (M.Sc., Main Campus)
- International Material Flow Management (IMAT), Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, fee-paying; offered as an M.Sc. in Birkenfeld or as an M.Eng. with study periods at partner universities abroad (counted once)
German-taught programmes require DSH 2 or TestDaF 4. Exchange semesters taught in English are not degree programmes and are not counted.
