How much does Trossingen State University of Music cost for international students?
Trossingen charges non-EU students a tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, because Baden-Württemberg requires it at its public universities. Students from the EU and EEA do not pay it, and state law sets a few further exemptions. Applications for an exemption are due by 21 January for the summer semester and 21 June for the winter semester.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Master (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Second degree (after a German degree) | 650 EUR per semester |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | Total not published; it includes the 80 EUR state administration fee and the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim contribution (58.60 EUR in 2025). Ask the university for the current amount |
| Application fee (entrance audition) | 50 EUR |
The semester contribution does not include a public transport ticket.
Paying tuition does not replace the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
Trossingen publishes one set of dates for all applicants, and the application portal is open only within these windows. Every applicant pays a 50 EUR application fee. Most programmes first require a prescreening video of 10 to 15 minutes, submitted with the application, and admission depends on an entrance audition after the deadline.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master | Winter (application from 1 March, entrance audition afterwards) | 1 April |
| Bachelor and Master | Summer (application from 1 October, entrance audition afterwards) | 1 November |
| Bachelor Musikdesign | Winter only | 1 April |
Applicants without a university entrance qualification can still be admitted through an aptitude test, which is held in German. Check the audition dates for your subject on the university's deadlines page.
How many programmes are taught in English?
No degree programme at Trossingen is taught in English. International applicants need German at level B2: for the school teaching and music education programmes, the certificate is due with the application; for the other Bachelor's and Master's programmes, it is due during the first year of study.
Seven full-time degree programmes are taught in German: the Bachelor's in Podium und Orchester, Musik-Pädagogik, Gymnasiallehramt and Musikdesign, and the Master's in Podium und Orchester, Musik-Pädagogik and Gymnasiallehramt. The other Master's programmes (including Creative Arts and Audio Experience Design) are part-time and not suitable for a student visa.
