How much does Technical University of Braunschweig cost for international students?
TU Braunschweig charges no tuition for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because Lower Saxony abolished general tuition fees from winter 2014/15. The only fee that can apply later is the long-term fee of 500 EUR per semester for students who stay well beyond the standard period of study.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 472.50 EUR (247.50 EUR student body incl. Deutschlandticket, 150 EUR Studierendenwerk, 75 EUR administration fee) |
| Assessment fee for foreign qualifications (one-time, when applying) | 75 EUR |
Long-term fees start only after the standard period of study plus a tolerance; for a Master's student with a foreign Bachelor's degree, the allowance is twice the standard period, so 8 semesters for a 4-semester Master's.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
Non-EU applicants with foreign qualifications pay a one-time assessment fee of 75 EUR when they apply. For English-language and bilingual Master's programmes, non-EU applicants have an earlier deadline than EU applicants.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Master, English-language or bilingual | Winter (application from 1 February) | 15 March |
| Master, English-language or bilingual | Summer (application from 1 August) | 15 September |
| Bachelor and German-taught Master | Winter (application from 1 June) | 15 July |
| Bachelor and German-taught Master | Summer (application from 1 December) | 15 January |
| Studienkolleg (preparatory course) | Winter / summer | 31 May / 30 November |
The later 15 October and 1 April dates for open-admission Bachelor's programmes apply to EU citizens only. Most Bachelor's programmes start in winter only. The Microelectronics Engineering specialisation of the Master's in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is excluded from the earlier international dates.
How many programmes are taught in English?
Four Master's programmes are taught in English:
- Artificial Intelligence for Molecular Sciences (AIMS), M.Sc.
- Data Science, M.Sc.
- Quantum Technologies in Electrical and Computer Engineering, M.Sc.
- Solar System Physics, M.Sc.
The Master's in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is taught in German, but its Microelectronics Engineering specialisation is taught fully in English; it is not a separate degree, so it is not counted here. Not counted either: the bilingual Master's in Computational Sciences in Engineering and the bilingual Bachelor's in Sustainable Engineering of Products and Processes, which also require German when you apply.
