How much does TU Dortmund University cost for international students?
TU Dortmund charges no tuition fees for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because it is a public university funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's and Master's | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (winter 2026/27) | 339.70 EUR per semester (97 EUR Studierendenwerk Dortmund + 242.70 EUR student body, including the 226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket) |
The amount can change each semester.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
Non-EU/EEA applicants apply through uni-assist. The deadline is the date by which uni-assist must receive the complete application and the processing fee.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's and Master's, English-taught | Winter (October) | 15 May (applications from about early January) |
| Bachelor's and Master's, German-taught | Winter (October) | 15 July (applications from about mid-March) |
| Bachelor's and Master's, all programmes | Summer (April) | 15 January (applications from about early November) |
| Spatial Planning and SPRING (Master's) | By programme | See the programme page |
Leave enough time for uni-assist processing and check the exact dates for your programme before applying.
How many programmes are taught in English?
TU Dortmund offers several Master's programmes taught entirely in English, for example Automation and Robotics, Chemical Biology, Chemical Engineering, Econometrics (with Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen), Manufacturing Technology, Spatial Planning and SPRING – Spatial Planning for Regions in Growing Economies. Directories list up to 36 English-taught or bilingual programmes, including some taught in English and German.
Check the language of instruction on your programme page before applying; most Bachelor's programmes are taught in German.
