How much does Technical University of Ilmenau cost for international students?

TU Ilmenau charges no tuition fees for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because it is a public university funded by the state of Thuringia. A fee of 500 EUR per semester applies only to students who exceed the standard period of study.

TU Ilmenau lists the components for winter 2026/27 but not the total, so the figure above is added up from them; check the exact amount invoiced to you in the Campus Portal. In summer 2026 the contribution was 313.80 EUR.

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

These dates apply to all applicants with a foreign school or university certificate. You apply directly through the TU Ilmenau Campus Portal, and a processing fee of 75 EUR applies to each application from abroad.
