How much does Ulm University cost for international students?
Students from outside the EU and EEA pay a tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester. This is not set by the university: Baden-Württemberg has charged it at all its public universities since winter 2017/18. EU and EEA students pay no tuition for Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes. Students who obtained their university entrance qualification in Germany are exempt, and exchange students under university agreements are not charged.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor, non-EU students | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Master (consecutive), non-EU students | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Bachelor and Master, EU and EEA students | No tuition fees |
| Second degree (if exempt from the international fee) | 650 EUR per semester |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 192 EUR per semester (administration fee, Studierendenwerk Ulm and student body) |
Unlike at most German universities, the semester contribution does not include a Deutschlandticket or any semester ticket, so public transport has to be bought separately. Continuing-education Master's programmes charge their own fees. The amount is set each semester, so it changes.
The tuition fee comes on top of the proof-of-funds requirement. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
If you have foreign certificates, you apply through uni-assist. Deadlines are cut-off dates, and documents cannot be added afterwards. Master's deadlines are set by each programme and can fall months before the semester starts.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor | Winter | 15 July (all documents at uni-assist) |
| Master, Energy Science and Technology | Winter only | 15 March |
| Master, Communication and Information Technology | Summer only (March) | 15 August to 30 September |
| Master, all other programmes | Winter / summer | See the programme page |
Check the application period on your Master's programme page early, because some close in spring for the following winter semester.
