How much does University of Augsburg cost for international students?
The University of Augsburg currently charges no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike. Since 2023, Bavarian law has allowed its public universities to charge non-EU students, and some Bavarian universities have introduced such fees; the University of Augsburg states that it charges none at present. Part-time programmes for working professionals are an exception and charge their own fees.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master (full-time) | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 181.95 EUR, including 85 EUR for the Studierendenwerk Augsburg and 96.55 EUR for the semester ticket |
The semester ticket covers public transport in the Augsburg area, not the whole of Germany; you can upgrade to the Deutschlandticket at the Bavarian student price, with the semester ticket share credited. Because Bavarian law allows non-EU fees, check the university's current fee rules before you apply.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
The University of Augsburg publishes no central Master's deadline: each programme sets its own, and you apply in the VIBS portal, which opens on dates that differ by programme. Several programmes ask applicants who need a visa to apply months before the formal deadline. Bachelor's applicants with a foreign school certificate first need a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist, which takes 6 to 8 weeks.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Master Data Science (English) | Winter / summer | 1 September / 1 March (recommended for visa applicants: 1 May / 1 November) |
| Master English and American Studies, Mathematics and Computer Science (English) | Winter / summer | 1 September / 1 March; apply earlier if you need a visa |
| Master Software Engineering, Elite Graduate Programme (English) | Winter only (aptitude assessment) | 1 May |
