How much does University of Church Music of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Saxony cost for international students?
The full-time degree programmes charge no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike; the school charges only an administration fee and the semester ticket. Fees apply only to part-time and continuing-education courses, such as the distance-learning C certificate in church music (330 to 510 EUR per semester).
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Church Music B (Diplom) | No tuition fees |
| Church Music A (Diplom, postgraduate) | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, full-time, winter 2026/27) | 289.18 EUR (234.18 EUR Deutschlandticket including the MOBIbike bike-sharing scheme, 55 EUR administration fee) |
New students pay the contribution before enrolment. The amount is set each semester, so it changes.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
The school publishes one set of dates for all applicants, and studies normally start in winter only. Admission requires a one-day aptitude test (audition). You apply directly to the school by post or email.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Church Music A and B (audition in late March) | Winter | 28 February |
| Church Music A and B (audition in May/June) | Winter | 30 April |
The double-subject teacher training programme with church music is applied for at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music Dresden, by 31 March. If you need a visa, choose the earlier audition date.
How many programmes are taught in English?
No programme at the school is taught in English. Non-native speakers need German at B2 level.
Two full-time degree programmes are taught in German: Church Music B (Diplom) and the postgraduate Church Music A (Diplom). The school also offers part-time and continuing-education courses and a non-degree basic church music course for international students, which are not counted here.
