How much does University of Hamburg cost for international students?
The University of Hamburg charges no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike, because tuition fees were abolished in Hamburg.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's and Master's | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (winter 2026/27) | 402 EUR per semester, including the Deutschlandticket and the contributions for the Studierendenwerk and the student body |
The contribution is also due for a semester on leave; for several consecutive semesters on leave it is reduced to 352 EUR.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
The deadlines are the same for all applicants. The international Master's programmes, which are taught fully or partly in English, close about two and a half months before the other Master's programmes. Applications go through the university's STiNE portal.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| International Master's programmes | Winter (applications from 15 February) | 31 March |
| Other Master's programmes | Winter (applications from 1 May) | 15 June |
| Bachelor's and state examination | Winter (applications from 1 June) | 15 July |
| Bachelor's and Master's | Summer | Usually 15 January; confirm in STiNE |
Some programmes set their own earlier dates, so check your programme page before applying.
