University of Health Professions Eberswalde for International Students

BEFORE YOU APPLY

The University of Health Professions Eberswalde (Hochschule für Gesundheitsfachberufe Eberswalde, HGE) is a small private, state-recognised, non-profit university of applied sciences in Brandenburg. Its dual Bachelor's programmes in Nursing and Midwifery cost 490 EUR per month, usually paid by the hospital or care provider you train with, and you receive a training allowance. All programmes are taught in German. HGE's programmes are not a route to a German student visa: the dual Bachelor's require a training contract with a German practice institution, and the other programmes are for qualified health professionals.

How much does University of Health Professions Eberswalde cost for international students?

As a private university, HGE charges a monthly study fee, the same for EU and non-EU students. HGE states that its member hospitals and care providers have paid the study fees for their students since winter 2023. In both dual programmes, you also receive a training allowance from your practice institution for the whole degree, including the theory phases; the amount is set by each institution.

ItemCost for international students
Bachelor, Nursing (B.Sc., dual)490 EUR per month, usually paid by the practice institution
Bachelor, Midwifery (B.Sc., dual)490 EUR per month (2023 information sheet), usually paid by the practice institution

Studentenwerk contribution (everyone)70 EUR per semester

No Deutschlandticket or other semester ticket is listed. Confirm the current fees with HGE.

A German student visa requires a full-time degree programme that you can take up without a German employment or training contract. HGE's dual programmes depend on a training contract with a German hospital or care provider, and the other programmes are for working professionals, so they are generally not a route to a student visa. If you come to Germany on a student visa for another programme, you need proof of funds of 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.

What are the application deadlines?

HGE publishes no application deadline, for EU or non-EU applicants; you apply by email to the university. The dual programmes start only in winter. Half of the degree takes place at a practice institution, with which you sign a training contract, and for the practical phases you apply directly to one of HGE's partner hospitals or care providers, so in practice the timeline is set by their recruitment. HGE offers help with contacts.

Ask HGE (studium@gesundheit-akademie.de) about the required German level and whether it can admit applicants from abroad.

How many programmes are taught in English?

No programme at HGE is taught in English. The dual programmes lead to German state professional licences in nursing or midwifery, which require German at a level suitable for patient care; HGE does not publish the required level, so ask before you apply.

HGE offers four Bachelor's programmes in German: the dual B.Sc. in Nursing and in Midwifery, and the work-integrated B.Sc. in Applied Nursing Science and B.A. in Education for qualified health professionals. None of them is suitable for a student visa.
