Baden-Württemberg is the only German state that charges international students from outside the EU/EEA a state-mandated tuition fee, set by state law (Landeshochschulgebührengesetz) at 1,500 EUR per semester for Bachelor's, consecutive Master's and State Examination programmes.

Every student also pays the semester contribution, which is not a fee for teaching. At Konstanz this is made up of a Studierendenwerk Seezeit contribution, a state administrative fee, a student body fee and a transport-ticket component, set fresh each semester.

No tuition outcome changes the proof-of-funds requirement for the student visa: you still need to show about 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, transferred months before the semester starts.

University of Konstanz publishes one Bachelor's deadline that applies regardless of nationality, rather than a separate later date for EU applicants. Master's deadlines are set per programme, and programmes that use a placement procedure, such as Computer and Information Science, publish an earlier deadline specifically for applicants who need a student visa than for those who do not.

Through ZEuS, the university's own online application and enrolment portal. University of Konstanz does not appear on uni-assist's list of participating universities, so there is no uni-assist account, no uni-assist processing fee, and no separate pre-checking stage.

University of Konstanz publishes at least 8 Master's programmes taught completely in English, in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Economics, Life Science, Linguistics, Mediterranean History and Multilingualism, out of roughly 100 degree programmes in total. All of the English-taught programmes are at Master's level; there do not appear to be Bachelor's programmes taught fully in English. You can study these programmes without German, though everyday German still helps with housing, part-time work and the authorities.

Requirements are set per programme rather than centrally. For example, the Biological Sciences M.Sc. programme asks for at least a high B2 CEFR level, shown by a TOEFL score of 90 or more, an IELTS band score of 6 or more, a Cambridge First Certificate at grade C or better, five years of continuous English classes at secondary level, or prior coursework substantially taught in English.

Work backwards from the lecture start rather than the semester start. The winter semester formally begins on 1 October, but lectures start on 19 October 2026, and you want to be in Konstanz a few weeks before that for city registration, a bank account and a room.

Founded in 1966 as a reform university, University of Konstanz is a public research university on the shore of Lake Constance, four kilometres from the Swiss border, and one of Germany's Universities of Excellence. It is a compact, single-campus university, opened on the Gießberg in 1972, with three faculties: Sciences, Humanities, and Politics, Law and Economics, and around 100 degree programmes.

Its small size and cross-border location, close to Switzerland and within reach of Austria, make short distances between departments and easy access to the wider Lake Constance region part of everyday student life.
