How much does University of Mannheim cost for international students?
The University of Mannheim charges students from outside the EU and EEA tuition of 1,500 EUR per semester, because Baden-Württemberg state law has set this fee at all public universities in the state since fall 2017/18. It does not apply to students who earned their school-leaving qualification in Germany, or to people with an established residence connection to Germany, such as holders of a settlement permit and recognised refugees. Students starting a second Bachelor's, or a Master's after already completing a Bachelor's and a Master's in Germany, pay a second-degree fee of 650 EUR per semester instead. The state government's coalition agreement of May 2026 announces a review of the fee for international students; no change had been decided as of October 2026.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Master (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Master of Comparative Business Law (all students) | 8,500 EUR for the two-semester programme, no 1,500 EUR fee on top |
| Second degree | 650 EUR per semester |
| Semester contribution (everyone, fall 2026/27) | 194 EUR (80 EUR administrative fee, 100 EUR Studierendenwerk, 14 EUR student body) |
Unlike at most German universities, the semester contribution does not include a semester ticket or the Deutschlandticket, so you buy a transport ticket separately.
Tuition fees do not replace the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, on top of the 1,500 EUR per semester you pay the university.
What are the application deadlines?
The university publishes one set of dates for all applicants and no separate date for non-EU applicants; deadlines vary by programme. All Bachelor's programmes start in fall only. You apply through the university's own portal, Portal², not uni-assist. Applicants from outside the EU/EEA do not take part in the hochschulstart.de (DoSV) procedure and apply only through Portal². Documents must arrive by the deadline, and applicants from China, India and Vietnam must include the APS certificate, with no extension.
