How much does University of Münster cost for international students?
The University of Münster charges no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike, because North Rhine-Westphalia does not charge tuition at its public universities. Only part-time continuing-education programmes charge fees.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor | No tuition fees |
| Master | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 369.50 EUR (226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket, 119.77 EUR Studierendenwerk, 17.50 EUR student body, small amounts for sport, culture ticket, insurance and university radio) |
The amount is set each semester, so it changes.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
These are the deadlines for applicants from outside the EU and EEA. For Bachelor's programmes they fall earlier than for EU applicants; Master's deadlines are the same for everyone, and some Master's programmes accept applications until 15 September (winter) or 15 March (summer). You apply through the university's own online portal, then send the printed and signed application with all required documents to the university by post. Deadlines are cut-off dates and are not extended at weekends; only the date your documents arrive counts. There is no conditional admission and no Studienkolleg in Münster.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor, restricted admission / state examination | Winter (application from early May) | 31 May |
| Bachelor, open admission | Winter (application from early May) | 15 July |
| Master (non-teaching) | Winter (application from early May) | 15 July |
| Bachelor, restricted admission / state examination | Summer (application from early November) | 30 November |
| Bachelor, open admission | Summer (application from early November) | 15 January |
| Master (non-teaching) | Summer (application from early November) | 15 January |
The university's DSH German course has its own deadline: 31 May for winter, 30 November for summer. A Bachelor's degree from outside Germany does not qualify you for the university's Master of Education (teacher training) programmes.
