How much does University of Passau cost for international students?

The University of Passau charges no tuition, for EU and non-EU students alike. Bavarian law allows universities to charge non-EU students, and several Bavarian universities now do, but Passau has stated that it is not planning to introduce tuition fees for international students. Its fee schedule of January 2026 contains no tuition or application fee for degree students; fees apply only to guest students and certificate programmes.

ItemCost for international students
BachelorNo tuition fees
MasterNo tuition fees
Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27)126.90 EUR (82 EUR Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz, 44.90 EUR Passau semester bus pass)

The contribution does not include the Deutschlandticket; you can buy the discounted Bavarian ticket with the semester ticket credited against it. Because Bavarian law allows non-EU fees, check the university's current fee rules before you apply.

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

Applicants with school-leaving or university qualifications from outside the EU/EEA apply through uni-assist; the deadline is the date by which the complete application and the uni-assist fee (75 EUR for the first application, 30 EUR for each further one) must reach uni-assist. Applicants who apply directly through the campus portal have later deadlines, so the dates on general programme pages are often later than the ones that apply to you.

Some programme listings give 15 January as the summer deadline for Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics; apply by the earlier date to be safe. Several Master's programmes (for example Development Studies, Governance and Public Policy, International Economics and Business) admit only in winter.

How many programmes are taught in English?

Eleven degree programmes are taught in English, mostly at Master's level:

  • Artificial Intelligence (B.Sc.)
  • Mathematics (B.Sc.)
  • Artificial Intelligence Engineering (M.Sc.)
  • Business Administration (M.Sc.)
  • Computational Mathematics (M.Sc.)

  • Development Studies (M.A.)
  • Governance and Public Policy (M.A.)

  • International Economics and Business (M.Sc.)
