How much does University of Potsdam cost for international students?

The University of Potsdam charges no tuition fees for Bachelor's programmes and consecutive Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because Brandenburg charges no general tuition fees at its public universities. The exception is a small number of continuing-education Master's programmes, such as the MBA and the Master of Laws, which set their own fees.

ItemCost for international students
BachelorNo tuition fees
Master (consecutive)No tuition fees
Master (continuing education, e.g. MBA, Master of Laws)Fees set per programme
uni-assist check of foreign qualifications75 EUR for the first programme, 30 EUR for each further programme in the same semester
Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27)372.80 EUR (80 EUR Studierendenwerk, 15 EUR student body, 51 EUR enrolment and re-registration fee, 226.80 EUR Deutschlandsemesterticket)

The amount is set each semester, so it changes.

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.

What are the application deadlines?

The university publishes one set of dates for all applicants and no separate date for non-EU applicants. If you have a foreign degree, you need a uni-assist preliminary review documentation (VPD) submitted by the deadline (processing takes 4 to 6 weeks); a foreign school certificate for a Bachelor's needs about five weeks of evaluation before the deadline. Applicants from China, India and Vietnam also need the APS certificate. Most Master's programmes use the university portal PULS; Cognitive Science, Cognitive Systems, Psychology and War and Conflict Studies take applications through uni-assist, and Polymer Science applies via Freie Universität Berlin.
