How much does University of Regensburg cost for international students?
The University of Regensburg charges no tuition for Bachelor's, Master's or State Examination programmes, and states explicitly that there are no tuition fees for international students. Fees apply only to continuing-education Master's programmes and to the pre-study German course (530 EUR per semester as of summer 2026).
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor and State Examination | No tuition fees |
| Master (consecutive) | No tuition fees |
| Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27) | 208 EUR (82 EUR Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz, 126 EUR RVV semester ticket) |
The RVV semester ticket covers public transport in the Regensburg network. It does not include the Deutschlandticket; you can buy the discounted Bavarian ticket with the semester ticket credited against it. Because Bavarian law allows non-EU fees, check the university's current fee rules before you apply.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
International applicants must apply by these dates even for open-admission Bachelor's programmes, in which applicants with a German school-leaving certificate can simply enrol later in the year. Applications go online to the university, not through uni-assist; only certain combinations of nationality and subject require a central service. Master's applicants with a foreign Bachelor's degree also need a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist, which takes 4 to 6 weeks, in addition to applying through the university's portal.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor, State Examination, Studienkolleg | Winter (October) | 15 July |
| Bachelor, State Examination, Studienkolleg | Summer (April) | 15 January |
| Master | Winter (October) | Per programme, from 1 June (applications open 15 April) |
| Master | Summer (April) | See the programme page |
Plan the uni-assist VPD early, because it has to be ready before the Master's deadline.
How many programmes are taught in English?
The university states that 17 degree programmes are taught in English: 16 Master's programmes and one undergraduate programme, out of around 200 subjects. They include English Linguistics, the International Master Biology and ALGANT (Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory). The university's programme finder also lists American Studies and British Studies (B.A.) as English-taught subjects, so check the programme finder for the current list. All other programmes, including all State Examination programmes, are taught in German; double-degree programmes usually require German at B2 or C1.
