How much does University of Siegen cost for international students?

The University of Siegen charges no tuition for Bachelor's and Master's programmes, for EU and non-EU students alike, because North Rhine-Westphalia does not charge tuition at its public universities. The university also charges no fee for processing applications.

ItemCost for international students
BachelorNo tuition fees
MasterNo tuition fees
Semester contribution (everyone, winter 2026/27)393.80 EUR (226.80 EUR Deutschlandticket, 140 EUR Studierendenwerk Siegen, 20 EUR student body, 7 EUR solidarity fund)
Preparatory German course (DSH preparation)500 EUR per semester, in addition to the semester contribution

No part of the semester contribution can be waived, and the amount is set each semester, so it changes. New students must pay it by the date in their enrolment letter to complete enrolment.

No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.

What are the application deadlines?

The university states that for English-taught Master's programmes and non-EU applicants, deadlines often end on 30 April or earlier for winter and 31 October for summer because of the visa process. Each Master's programme publishes its own application period, and some (for example Computer Science) admit non-EU applicants in winter only. Master's applications go through the university's own portal unisono; non-EU applicants for Bachelor's programmes apply by email to the admissions office. The university does not use uni-assist and charges no application fee.
