How much does University of Stuttgart cost for international students?

The University of Stuttgart is a public university, but Baden-Württemberg charges students who are not EU/EEA citizens a tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester for Bachelor's, consecutive Master's and state examination programmes (since winter 2017/18). Exemptions include applicants with a German school-leaving qualification, doctoral students, certain exchange and double-degree students, holders of a settlement permit or permanent EU residence permit, family members of EU/EEA citizens, recognised refugees and people who have lived and worked legally in Germany for at least five years. A second degree after a German degree costs 650 EUR per semester, but not on top of the 1,500 EUR fee. Part-time continuing-education Master's programmes have their own fees. The state's 2026 coalition agreement announces a review of the fees for international students; no change has been decided.

Every student also pays the semester contribution, currently 184 EUR: 80 EUR administration fee, 96.50 EUR for the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and 7.50 EUR for the student body. It does not include a Deutschlandticket or semester ticket, so you buy public transport tickets separately.
