How much does University of Tübingen cost for international students?
Under Baden-Württemberg state law, students from outside the EU and EEA pay a tuition fee of 1,500 EUR per semester for Bachelor's, Master's and state examination programmes. The fee does not apply to EU and EEA citizens, to applicants who obtained their university entrance qualification in Germany, to recognised refugees and persons with comparable protection status, to exchange students under cooperation agreements, or to doctoral candidates. Students starting a second degree after a first German degree pay 650 EUR per semester instead. The state government's coalition agreement of May 2026 announces a review of the fee for international students; no change had been decided as of October 2026.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Tuition, Bachelor and Master (non-EU) | 1,500 EUR per semester |
| Second degree | 650 EUR per semester, instead of the non-EU fee |
| Doctoral studies | No tuition fee |
| Semester contribution (everyone) | About 200 EUR per semester (80 EUR state administration fee, 107.80 EUR Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim incl. a naldo transport solidarity contribution, 12 EUR student body); confirm the current total with the university |
The Deutschlandticket is not included. The naldo solidarity contribution covers free regional travel on weekday evenings from 7 p.m., at weekends and on public holidays; the naldo semester ticket and the Deutschlandticket are bought separately. Exemptions from the non-EU fee on application, for example for hardship or exceptional ability, are decided by the university.
Paying tuition does not replace the proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
The standard Master's dates for non-EU applicants fall earlier than for German and EU applicants (winter: 15 March instead of 15 September). Many Master's programmes set their own dates, and the university notes that deadlines may change. You apply directly to the university; uni-assist is not used.
