How much does West Saxon University of Applied Sciences of Zwickau cost for international students?
WHZ charges no tuition fee for a first degree or a consecutive Master's, for EU and non-EU students alike. Saxon law allows universities to charge non-EU students if they offer a scholarship programme for this group, but WHZ's fee regulations list no such fee. A bill by the AfD to introduce a fee of 1,500 EUR per semester for non-EU students at Saxon universities had not been put to a vote as of October 2026. Fees do apply to some continuing-education Master's and MBA programmes, to a second degree under certain conditions and to studies well beyond the standard period.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor and consecutive Master | No tuition fees |
| Master Management and Information Technology | 831.30 EUR per semester (tuition plus semester contribution) |
| Master Production Optimisation; Occupational Health and Safety Management (continuing education) | 987.55 EUR per semester (tuition plus contribution without ticket) |
| MBA Business in a Digital World / MBA International Business | 1,862.55 / 2,012.55 EUR per semester (tuition plus contribution without ticket) |
| Second degree (under certain conditions) | 300 EUR per semester |
| Long-term study fee | 500 EUR per semester beyond the standard period |
| uni-assist application | 75 EUR for the first application, 30 EUR for each further one |
| Semester contribution (winter 2026/27) | 331.30 EUR in Zwickau (incl. 226.80 EUR Deutschlandsemesterticket and 93 EUR Studentenwerk); 247.40 EUR at the Schneeberg and Markneukirchen sites |
The amount is set each semester, so it changes.
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds. For the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year, usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
These dates apply to non-EU applicants, who apply through uni-assist (at most two WHZ programmes). For open-admission programmes they are earlier than the EU dates (31 July for winter, 31 December for summer); restricted-admission programmes have the same dates for everyone.
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor and Master, open admission | Winter | 30 June |
| Bachelor and Master, restricted admission | Winter | 30 April |
| Master (programmes with a summer intake) | Summer | 30 November |
Bachelor's programmes start in winter only, and only some Master's programmes offer a summer intake; check the programme page for whether your programme is restricted. Design (Bachelor's) and Acoustics and Technology of Musical Instrument Making (Master's) require an aptitude test and an application through the WHZ campus portal.
