How much does Wilhelm Büchner University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
Wilhelm Büchner University of Applied Sciences is a private distance-learning university with unlimited state recognition from the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art since 2008. Tuition is a fixed monthly fee set per programme, under three payment models (Sprint, Standard and Comfort) that spread the programme over different periods; the university states that the monthly rate does not rise during your studies. The programme pages show only the lowest monthly rate ("from"); the rate for each model and the total price are in the info pack, which you can request from the university. No separate rates for non-EU students are published.
There is no semester contribution and no Deutschlandticket, since the university has no Studierendenwerk or student body contribution. No application, registration or exam fee is published. Each recognised ECTS credit from previous studies reduces your fees by 40 EUR.

A German student visa requires a degree programme that has to be studied in Germany, and programmes that can be completed by distance learning generally do not qualify (Administrative Court Berlin, 28 November 2025, 11 K 175/25). If you do come to Germany on a student visa for another programme, you need proof of funds of 11,904 EUR for the year (2026, Federal Foreign Office), usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor, Master and MBA (distance learning) | Any time | No deadline |
| Online evening study (Online-Abendstudium) | 1 September (lectures from 15 September) | No deadline; apply at least 4 weeks before the start |
One rule applies to all applicants: distance programmes can be started on any day of the year, with no numerus clausus, and you can try a programme free of charge for 4 weeks. Foreign school and degree certificates are assessed individually by the university. You need good written and spoken German (no specific level or test is named); Master's and MBA programmes also require good English.
How many programmes are taught in English?
0. The university does not state a teaching language for any programme on its own pages, and all programme pages are in German. Two programmes once advertised as English-taught, Engineering Management (MBA) and Technology & Innovation Management (now Innovations- und Technologiemanagement M.Sc.), are now listed as taught in English and German, so they are not counted as English-taught. Ask the university before applying if you need to study in English.
