How much does Witten/Herdecke University cost for international students?
Witten/Herdecke University is a private, state-recognised university and charges tuition for every degree programme, set per programme in its fee regulations. You choose between three payment modes under the Income Share Agreement (ISA), run by the student-founded StudierendenGesellschaft: fixed monthly payments during the standard period of study, a 50/50 split (half paid monthly, half repaid later from income), or nothing during your studies and income-based repayment after graduation. In the income-based mode you repay a fixed share of your future income, for example 5% for the PPE and Management Master's (applicants who have not studied at UW/H before), 8% for the Psychology Bachelor's and the Bachelor of Choice, 12% for Human Medicine and 14% for Dentistry. Repayment runs for 10 contribution years (13 for Dentistry), only years with a relevant income above around 21,000 EUR count, and the total is capped at twice the fixed payment amount. The StudierendenGesellschaft says the ISA is available to all UW/H students, with no means test; it names no separate rule for non-EU students, so confirm with it before you apply. Semesters beyond the standard period of study are not charged.
The semester contribution is about 308.80 EUR from winter 2026/27: an 82 EUR social contribution to the Hochschulwerk Witten/Herdecke and about 226.80 EUR for the Deutschlandsemesterticket, so it includes the Deutschlandticket (it was 290.80 EUR in winter 2025/26; confirm the current amount with the Hochschulwerk). Master's rates are higher for external students, meaning applicants who have not studied at UW/H before, which covers most international applicants.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's (German-taught) | 29,448 EUR in total, 818 EUR per month (Psychology, B.Sc.) to 37,872 EUR, 1,052 EUR per month (Bachelor of Choice, B.Sc.); Bachelor of Choice, B.A.: 31,680 EUR, 880 EUR per month |
| PPE – Philosophy, Politics and Economics (M.A., English) | 24,048 EUR in total: 1,002 EUR per month full-time (4 semesters) or 668 EUR per month part-time (6 semesters) |
| Management (M.Sc., English, partly German) | 33,264 EUR in total: 1,386 EUR per month full-time (4 semesters) or 924 EUR per month part-time (6 semesters) |
| Other Master's (German-taught) | From 10,440 EUR (Ethics and Organisation, M.A., 2025/26 rate) to 25,968 EUR (Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, M.Sc.) in total |
| Human Medicine (state examination) | 76,800 EUR in total, 1,280 EUR per month (10 semesters) |
| Dentistry (state examination) | 110,400 EUR in total, 1,840 EUR per month (10 semesters) |
| Income Share Agreement (pay later) | Nothing during your studies; then 4% to 14% of relevant income depending on the programme, for 10 contribution years (13 for Dentistry), capped at twice the fixed amount |
| Application fee | 50 EUR (Economics and Society programmes incl. PPE and Management; waived if you apply by 15 June for winter or 15 December for summer); 150 EUR (Psychology); 250 EUR (Human Medicine); 300 EUR (Dentistry) |
| Semester contribution | About 308.80 EUR, incl. Deutschlandsemesterticket |
Totals are fixed-payment rates for external students starting from winter 2026/27, except where marked; the fee regulations list only 2025/26 rates for Ethics and Organisation, Nursing Science and Community Health Nursing. For your visa you also need proof of funds of 11,904 EUR for the year (2026, Federal Foreign Office), usually in a blocked account.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| PPE (M.A.), Management (M.Sc.), Witten MBA | Winter only | Rolling until places are filled, latest 15 August (apply by 15 June to have the 50 EUR fee waived) |
| Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (M.Sc.) | Winter / Summer | 1 April to 15 June / 1 October to 15 January |
| Bachelor's: Management, Healthcare Management, Management and Psychology, PPÖ, Economics, Politics and Law | Winter / Summer | 15 August / 15 February |
| Psychology (B.Sc.) | Winter / Summer | 15 December to 28 February / 1 July to 30 September |
| Human Medicine (state examination) | Winter / Summer | 1 December to 1 February / 1 June to 15 July |
| Dentistry (state examination) | Winter only | 16 February to 1 June, followed by selection days |
One set of dates applies to all applicants; there is no separate or earlier deadline for non-EU applicants, and uni-assist is not used. You apply directly through the university's online application, followed by a document review and an admission interview (on campus or online) rather than a central NC procedure. For the English-taught Master's you need TOEFL 83, IELTS 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each section) or English at B2; most other programmes are taught in German.
How many programmes are taught in English?
1 fully English-taught programme: PPE – Philosophy, Politics and Economics (M.A.), full-time over 4 semesters or part-time over 6, winter intake only. The first year is largely hybrid.
Management (M.Sc.) is also mainly taught in English, but the university lists it as "English (partly German)" because some electives are in German, so it is not counted as fully English-taught. All Bachelor's and state examination programmes are taught in German. UW/H offers German courses for international students.
