How much does Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences cost for international students?
HSZG charges no general tuition fees, for EU and non-EU students alike, because it is a public university funded by the state of Saxony. A Saxon bill to introduce tuition fees of 1,500 EUR per semester for non-EU students had not been put to a vote as of October 2026. Students who already hold a degree may have to pay a second-degree fee of 300 EUR per semester under HSZG's fee regulations; the university decides this case by case on application.
What every student pays is the semester contribution: 350.13 EUR for winter 2026/27, which includes 226.80 EUR for the Deutschlandsemesterticket for public transport across Germany; the rest goes to Studentenwerk Dresden and the student body. At first enrolment you also pay 10 EUR for your student card, so 360.13 EUR in total.
| Item | Cost for international students |
|---|---|
| Bachelor's and Diploma | No tuition fees |
| Master's | No tuition fees |
| Second degree (if you already hold a degree) | 300 EUR per semester, decided case by case |
| Semester contribution (everyone, incl. Deutschlandsemesterticket) | 350.13 EUR per semester |
| Student card (first enrolment) | 10 EUR |
No tuition does not mean no proof of funds: for the student visa you still need to show 11,904 EUR for the year (2026, Federal Foreign Office), usually in a blocked account, and that money has to be transferred months before the semester starts.
What are the application deadlines?
| Degree | Intake | Deadline (non-EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's, Diploma and Master's (direct admission) | Winter | 15 July (late applications until 15 September if places remain) |
| Master's (direct admission, programmes with a summer start) | Summer | 15 January (late applications until 28 February if places remain) |
| European Business (Bachelor) | Winter | 31 August, via uni-assist with a foreign school-leaving certificate |
| Studienkolleg (indirect admission, DSH or FSP course) | Winter / Summer | 1 March to 30 April / 1 September to 31 October (documents must arrive by 15 May / 15 November) |
These are the dates for international applicants; late applications are only possible for programmes without restricted admission. Bachelor's and Diploma programmes start in winter only. You apply online through the HSZG applicant portal, then send the signed printout and your documents by post to Zittau; applicants from China, Mongolia and Vietnam need an APS certificate. German-taught programmes require DSH-1 or TestDaF level 3 (engineering) or DSH-2 or TestDaF level 4 (economics and social sciences); the English-taught programmes require English at B2.
How many programmes are taught in English?
HSZG teaches 2 degree programmes in English:
- European Business (B.A.), Zittau – a double degree with the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, with a compulsory semester in Liberec
- Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics (M.Sc.), Zittau
All other programmes are taught in German. HSZG offers a German intensive course before the semester and German classes alongside your studies.
